2024 NCAA Football

Needs to be a thread on this.

I will start. Missouri is a top five team. Prove me wrong. They have Brady Cook at QB, Luther Burden as WR, and a defensive that is giving up 2 yards per carry, for the year.

Why not just put the entire SEC conference in the top 15 and then fill the rankings w/everyone else?

They will play each other, and the bottom four will get knocked down.

Having looked at that again, and read the comments, I think my fellow members of 'Cock Nation have it right: that's a bogus call.

Nussmeier is heading to the sideline to try and tackle Imanwari. (He won't get there, but that's beside the point.) Kennard shoves him with both hands in the shoulder, and Nussmeier goes down. No head contact, not blindsided, and he wasn't defenseless. He hadn't given himself up; he's actively trying to make a play. No way that's a penalty, and that was the game right there.

(Not to mention the phantom OPS call [broadcasters looked at it three times, couldn't find anything] that took away a long Carolina pass, the time when a ref gave LSU a vital catch even though he was right next to the receiver who caught the ball while kneeling on the sideline [the booth reversed that one, but come on], and the pass interference in the end zone that set up the winning TD, when the WR and DB were locked up with each other, so if you make a call it should have been offsetting. Grr.)

I was just too bummed out by the previous Leicester City choke and focused on the forthcoming Mets choke (see those threads) to scrutinize this well enough at the time. But, c'mon, refs!

At least the refs aren't giving ridiculous calls to the home team because of the fans. (Does this mean that we need to be more aggressive in booing? Huh.) But still.

I want to apologize. I didn't realize you had posted about that play already.

A lot of the Mizzou fans down my way agree with you, but they're also kind of leery of past years when the team didn't live up to expectations.

'Amazing" how much social media has to say about Colorado's ability & character when they lose, but silent after they win.

Sure. I will give Sanders props here. They played a terrific game, and won one when they shouldn't have.

Deion does bring it upon himself. He knows how stupid & hypocritical the populace is & knows it is going to bring him heat. But he also knows how endearing that makes him to young disenfranchised men when he defends himself. The fact is, the stuff he does is either harmless or in self defense and his detractors are just looking for stuff to take issue w/ cause he isn't about bowing to the establishment. And all of the hub bub they make over him just keeps his smile on the home page of all the sport web sites.

We'll see what happens when(if) Colorado has a consistantly good program, if Deion doesn't bolt for the NFL before then.

Utah St is school #7 in the Pac 12. Who will be #8? Gonzaga? UNLV? UTSA? I'm pretty happy with the moves the Pac-12 has made thus far.

Edit: Evidently UTSA has committed to the AAC.

For the life of me, IDK Y the Mtn West made a deal to help OSU/WSU w/scheduling while acknowledging in their agreement the pair could poach their membership to join them. OSU/WSU had zero bargaining power.

It was probably financially beneficial in the short term.

That's the problem with college sports. Everyone thinks short term.

The legality, morality & fairness of the rules of college sports regarding compensation & transferring was known 50 years ago. The current chaos could have been avoided it they moved to correct matters gradually. And now the denigration of 60-75 football programs to the lower echelons is imminent. But none of the decision makers at those lower schools can organize themselves to ensure their survival.

I was, and still am, all for the reforms in eligibility & NIL in college sports. But I had also thought necessity was the mother of invention. Thus, these college educated leaders would come up with a way to avoid their annihilation & remain competitive. But I gave them too much credit. They all think an invite to the SEC or Big T1e8n is on its way & they will be among the survivors.
