Trying to find stride
The Flyers, heading through the dog days of November, have hit a rough patch currently, and face the Red Wings again at home before traveling to Chicago and hosting the Canadiens.
11/7: DET 3, PHI 2; Goals- DET: Lundy (1), Abel 2 (14), PHI: Bassi 2 (2); A- 7,398 A tough loss for the Flyers, getting outshot by 16 as Tom Burlington was scratched, and Philly failed on four power play opportunities in a one-goal loss. 11/11: CHI 3, PHI 0; Goals- M. Bentley (20), D. Bentley (11), Conacher (12), A- 15,211 Getting shut out by the Black Hawks was something the Flyers had not experienced this year. In fact they hadn't gotten shut out at all this season to this point, a surprise for an expansion team. 11/12 (TV): PHI 4, MTL 1; Goals- MTL: Lach (14), PHI: Burlington 2 (29), Rouse (1), Bauer (16); A- 7,042 Call-up goalie from Baltimore Murray Dowey shuts down the Canadiens, only allowing a sloppy 3rd period goal. He had 43 saves on the night in what was effectively a try-out for the other 6 NHL teams. |

Flying on the road
The Philadelphia Flyers continued a swing on the road with three straight road games in Boston, Detroit and Chicago.
11/15: PHI 5, BOS 0; Goals- Rittinger 2 (7), Smith (22), Kyle (6), McMurdy (6); A- 12,374 The Flyers' first shutout was a complete goalie performance from Sugar Jim Henry, who made 25 saves on 25 shots. Philly added 3 third-period goals. 11/18: DET 3, PHI 2; Goals- DET: Abel (17), Conacher (8), Guidolin (12); PHI: Kyle (7), Smith (13); A- 12,747 In a low-shot game in Detroit, only 37 combined for the game, Philly held a 2-1 lead going to the 3rd period, but blew it with two goals in 3:15 to lose the game to the Red Wings. 11/19: PHI 8, CHI 4; Goals- PHI: Kyle 2 (9), Burlington (30), Halder (5), Smith 3 (26), Stearns (10), CHI: Peirson (6), Blade (2), Conacher (13), Hamill (5); A- 14,108 The Flyers held a very close contested game through the first two periods, leading after a period 3-1, then 5-4 after 2. Philly got 3 in the 3rd, including two from Clint Smith for a hat trick. Another excellent game from Goodwin Harding. |
