Boston Americans Pitching Stats -- July 1903
Pitching stats for the month sorted by innings pitched (IP). Jesse Tannehill and Noodles Hahn continue to be the anchors of the staff. Leever and Young are hit and miss, though Young did have a decent month. Closer Jose Ramos has nice numbers but he sure causes me a lot of stress when he comes into the game.

Boston Americans Snapshot
A global look at the Boston Americans. The July record is consistent with the previous two months, with the difficult April setting the team back. I like how the team is hitting the ball and running the bases. Pitching as remained solid all year, though the staff has a tendency to serve up the long-ball far too often. Much to my surprise, team fielding is actually pretty good.

Game 112: Philadelphia Athletics vs. Boston Americans
I am actually surprised that we won this game. Despite the Philadelphia Athletics (62-50) jumping out to an early 4-0 lead, the Boston Americans (61-51) were able to overcome the deficit and take the game by a 5-4 score. With the win, Boston moved to 4 games out of the top spot, though the Magic # sits at 26.
In a match-up between the "Cys", Cy Young (10-14) picked up the win despite allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits and 3 walks; Game Score 53. Cy Falkenberg (12-11) pitched very well but his defense let him down, as he surrendered 5 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 61. The Americans limited hitting came from Cy Young (1 for 1, Triple, Run, 2 Sacrifice Bunts), Jiggs Donahue (1 for 4, Double, 2 Runs), and Danny Shay (1 for 3, Run, Stolen Base). John Titus (2 for 4, Double), Dick Harley (2 for 3, 2 RBIs), and Cy Falkenberg (2 for 3, Run, 2 RBIs) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Cy Falkenberg

Game 113: Philadelphia Athletics vs. Boston Americans
A nail-biter of a game, but in the end the Boston Americans (62-51) prevailed over the Philadelphia Athletics (62-51) by a 3 to 2 score to complete the 3-game sweep. With the win, the Americans moved into a tie for 2nd-place; 4 games out of the top spot.
The winning pitcher on the day was Sam Leever (16-11), as the "Goshen Schoolmaster" allowed just 2 runs (1 earned) on 10 hits and 1 walk; Game Score 62. Mordecai Brown took the mound for Philadelphia but did not factor into the decision. Brown allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings of play; Game Score 63. Lave Winham (1-1) was tagged with the loss after he permitted 1 earned run on 2 hits and 1 wild pitch in his 2/3 innings of work. At the plate, Homer Smoot (3 for 4, Run, Stolen Base), Chick Stahl (2 for 3, RBI), and Fred Clarke (1 for 2, Triple, Run, RBI, Walk) played well in the win. For the Athletics, Bill Coughlin (1 for 1, Run, RBI), Billy Clingman (1 for 3, Walk), and Tom Corcoran (1 for 4, Run) contributed in the loss. Player of the Game: Sam Leever (Season: #12 / Career: #34)

Game 114: Boston Americans vs. Chicago White Sox
A nice pitching performance by Noodles Hahn and timely hitting of Chick Stahl led the Boston Americans (63-51) to a 2 to 1 victory over the Chicago White Sox (48-66). The win, coupled to a New York Highlanders loss, moved the Americans to just 3-games out of the top spot.

The Boston hitting-attack was led by Chick Stahl (2 for 4, Double, Triple, Run) and Dave Brain (2 for 4, RBI, Stolen Base). Game 115: Boston Americans vs. Chicago White Sox
So utterly frustrating to have my team defense play so poorly. Specifically, what the heck is Kid Elberfeld doing playing shortstop when he is an error machine and hasn't hit the ball well in months. Squandering another opportunity, the Boston Americans (63-52) fell to the Chicago White Sox (49-66) in a 9th-inning blunder that ended in a 4 to 3 score.
Bill Carrick (11-15) picked up the win after limiting the opposition to 3 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits, 3 walks, and 1 hit batsman; Game Score 61. Jesse Tannehill (17-11) was burdened with the loss after allowing 4 runs (0 earned) on 8 hits and 3 walks; Game Score 59. For the White Sox, Mike Grady (2 for 3, 2 RBIs, Walk), John Anderson (2 for 4, Run), and Jim Jackson (1 for 1, Double, Run) played great at the plate. Frank Chance (2 for 4, Double, Run, RBI, 2 Stolen Bases), Fred Clarke (2 for 5, 2 RBIs), and Bill Lange (1 for 4, 2 Runs, Walk) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Bill Carrick

Giants Eliminated From Playoff Race
The New York Giants were eliminated from National League playoff race, marking the first team in MLB this season to have its playoff hopes dashed. The Giants have several players with outstanding potential on the team and perhaps they can find a way to build a contender around the likes of Zaza Harvey, Sam Crawford, and Cy Morgan.

American League Player of the Week
A familiar face takes home the American League Player of the Week award. In picking up his 4th PofW award of the season (and the 6th of his career), Big Ed Delahanty smacked the ball to the tune of a .600 batting average (15 for 25), with 6 Doubles, 1 Homerun, 5 Runs, 10 RBIs, and 2 Walks for a slash line of .600/.630/.960 which generated 1.0 WAR and 1.34 WPA. The Cleveland Naps outfielder is currently the overwhelming favorite to take home season MVP honors.
