To be fair, Mike Schmidt was a skinny 22-year old utility infielder who probably hadn't even grown his mustache yet.

Now I imagine the Phillies manager sniggering to the other players about how this Steve Carlton fella is acting mighty big for his britches.

In the top of the first, the Rangers loaded the bases with two out. But Billings grounded to short to retire the side.

In the top of the third, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Burroughs then drew a walk to force in a run. Billings followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home another run. Ford then walked to load the bases with two out. A wild pitch then scored Howard from third. Kubiak walked to reload the bases. Then Gogolewski walked to bring home another run. Maddox walked to force in the fifth run of the inning. Harrah then flew out to center to finally retire the side. Eleven men came to the plate for the Rangers in the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Etchebarren hit an RBI single. Pinch hitter Don Baylor hit a fly ball to center but Maddox threw Blair out at home as he tagged up at third and tried to score.

Doyle Alexander took the mound for the Orioles in the top of the eighth inning. Ford led off with a home run.

Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the eighth. The Orioles loaded the bases with nobody out. Pina hit Johnson with a pitch to force in a run. Robinson followed with an RBI single. Pina struck out Blair. One away. Etchebarren flew to right for the second out. Pinch hitter Rich Coggins drew a four pitch walk to force in a run to cut the lead to one. Grich then grounded to short to end the inning as the Orioles batted around the order.

Eddie Watt took the mound for the Orioles in the top of the ninth.

Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the ninth. The Orioles put the tying run on first but Johnson flew to center to end the game and Bosman finally had his first win of the season.

The Orioles lost despite pounding out 11 hits.

Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the eighth. Etchebarren got an RBI with a sacrifice fly. The Orioles went on to load the bases with two out before Powell struck out to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Nelson knocked one in with a single. Burroughs added his own RBI single. Then Howard also got an RBI single. With runners at the corners and one out, Grant Jackson took the mound for the Orioles and got Mincher to ground into the game-ending 6-4-3.

The Orioles tallied another 11 hits in the win.

In the top of the first, Burroughs got the scoring started with an RBI single.

After Billings led off the top of the seventh with a single, Phil Hennigan took the mound for the Indians. The Rangers went on to load the bases with nobody out. Broberg then tied the game with an RBI single. Maddox went down on strikes for the first out. Harrah then drew a 4 pitch walk to give the Rangers the lead back. Nelson then flew out to left and Foster threw Kubiak out at home to retire the side.

In the bottom of the seventh, Unser gave the Indians the lead back with a 2 run homer.

Steve Mingori took the mound for the Indians in the top of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out. Maddox grounded into the 6-2 for the first out. Harrah grounded into the 5-2 for the second out. But, with Nelson batting, Mingori threw a wild pitch, allowing Vic Harris to score the tying run. Nelson then walked to load the bases with two out. Burroughs then walked to bring home the go-ahead run. Mincher then grounded to first to retire the side.

Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the ninth. With runners at first and second and one out, Chambliss grounded into the game ending 4-6-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Burroughs then delivered a 2 run single. A walk to Mincher loaded the bases again. Kubiak popped up for the second out. Then Ford popped up to end the inning.

Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, a 2 out walk to Burroughs brought on a pitching change for the Twins and Tom Norton took the mound and struck out Mincher to end the inning.
