I haven't figured out how to exactly use it yet, but I found this site online:

https://nhlinjuryviz.blogspot.com/20...-database.html

Not sure if it can help assist with any injuries or not but figured I would post for what its worth anyways.

I dug out my collection of Sporting News Hockey Guides & Registers from the attic.
Hockey Reference only has NHL game logs, so for the WHA will have to estimate games missed based on season stats. (is there any equivalent site for WHA?)

Total NHL book unfortunately doesn't include any WHA stats.
Total Hockey has WHA stats, but not the suspension/injury info like Total NHL.

Anyway, here's a few more from 73-74 Sporting News Hockey Register:

Barry Ashbee, Boston 66-67, Spinal surgery, missed entire season.
Ralph Backstrom, Montreal 70-71, 'retired' after 69-70 season before returning. Missed first 24 games of 70-71.
Fred Barrett, Minnesota 72-73, Broken hand in camp, missed first 6 games.
Terry Clancy, Toronto 71-72, sat out entire season in retirement, returned in 72-73.
Brian Conacher, Detroit 68-69 , 69-70 & 70-71, was drafted by Detroit from Toronto in June 1968, sat out until 71-72 season.
John Cunniff, New England 72-73, knee surgery, missed start of season, returned & played 32 games that year.
Gary Doak, Boston 66-67, broken leg in camp , missed first 38 games.
Gary Doak, Vancouver 71-72, knee injury in pre-season, missed first 14 games.
Gary Doak, Detroit, 72-73, broken leg in camp, missed first 13 games.

Just began looking into starting a game in 1917 and was trying to familiarize myself with some of the players and unsurprisingly noticed a few guys that served in the military and would be unavailable to play in real life just thought these players should have a pre existing injury to keep them from playing.

Probably Personal Reasons even though it would be neat to see War Service added as a cause

I know it would be near impossible to find out every played who served but a hand full shouldn't be hard I have already seen Bill Cook, Frank Fredrickson and Duke Keats

Sorry just re read the first post and seen this brought up was this something still being worked on

I deliberately didn't use this system for the military service guys - in the 40's in particular there would be so many guys gone that it'd cause some serious issues with AI roster management to treat them all as injuries or suspensions. We'll need to add a specific system for managing those guys that effectively makes them temporarily invisible to the AI.

(There's actually a complete list of players in military service in WWI/II at https://www.sihrhockey.org/__a/publi...ry_service.cfm if you want to try it, though.)

The file will be very complete back to 2013, since I just used the presets files from each previous version of FHM, but to start with I've only got a couple of hundred entries for pre-2013 seasons. Basically just the major injuries and longer suspensions, and a few other things. It's a good start but a long way from being complete, so I'd appreciate any help people can contribute in fleshing out the list.

The current version of the file is attached below. The format is listed at the top of the file, 0 in the first column = injury, 1=suspension.

If there are any historical injuries or suspensions that need to be added, let me know here. Keep in mind that these need to be injuries or suspensions that existed at the start of the NHL season and caused the player to miss games - the vast majority of injuries happen after that and won't be listed here. I've also added a couple of new injury types that won't be used by the game to create new injuries, "personal reasons" and "cancer", but can be used here. I've used "personal reasons" to include a lot of guys who shouldn't be able to be signed in particular seasons, but show up now as RFA's or UFA's in the game - Dryden when he took a year off in 1973, pre-comeback retirements of Lafleur, Howe, Lindsay, etc.

You don't need to format your contributions as in the file, just give me the name, season, injury type, and the approximate time they returned or number of games they were suspended for. "Suspensions" can include team suspensions, not just league ones, e.g. when players were under contract but held out and refused to play, as well as players who weren't suspended but were in jail (MacTavish, Probert, Danton, etc.) One exception: military service; it'd break the roster AI if we used suspensions to model that, because so many players would be gone during World War 2. We're working on a better system to handle those guys.
To my mind, it's good research with statistical data
