In the bottom of the ninth, Aspromonte delivered a game-tying run-scoring single. With runners at first and second and nobody out, Don McMahon took the mound for the Braves. A walk loaded the bases with nobody out. After Smith struck out, Merritt Ranew came in to pinch hit. With the count 1-1, McMahon uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Mejias to score the winning run.
