My regular season schedule is fictional, but it follows the real life guidelines of MLB schedules of that era. There is no interleague (yet) and there are NO doubleheaders, which is a huge change from the real life schedule.

Each team plays the others in their league 22 times (11 H / 11 A).

The league will stay stable in its makeup and franchise locations will stay in place through 1960.

My expansion plans include 1961, 1971, 1986 and 2001. Four teams (2 for each league) will be added, roughly following real expansion timelines. Only two teams (1 for each league) will be added during 2001 expansion.

Relocations will occur in 1961 - no other relocations will be occurring after that date.

Teams will change divisions in 1961 to reflect the new expansion teams.

A two division format per league will stay in place until 2001 when the current real life three division per sub-league (5 teams each) will be adopted, although the divisional alignment will not follow real life.

Spoiler alert - the Dodgers and Senators do NOT relocate in my sim.

The final weekend of spring training is now upon us. MLB owners and the commissioner have approved home and home interleague play for the final two days of spring, allowing fans to see their favorite players one last chance before the start of the regular season next Thursday, while also seeing fan favorites from their rival league.

We also had a first trade of spring - with minor leaguers involved.

More injuries occurred, which are further shaping the opening day rosters for all 16 ballclubs.

Opening Day

The start of the 1954 regular season is upon us. The league schedule remains balanced, but for the first time ever the leagues have been broken into and Eastern and Western division.

The restructuring of Minor League Baseball (MiLB) took a toll on some of the massive farm systems that had been accumulated by some of the major league clubs. While teams were able to keep their AAA level players heading into the new year (and some teams actually had two different AAA treams), all other players in a teams farm system became free agents.

There were a few big names (known stars after their real careers played out), but remember the game only sees ratings / stats of a 19 or 20 year old with no big league history yet.

The league year began with a 150 round free agent draft to disperse and allocate and fill the entire "new" system of MiLB. Each team now has just four levels of minors, AAA, AA, A, Rookie. Roster limits are described earlier in this narrative.

I will try to post updates weekly (related to the sim), so hopefully I will be able to post quite a few updates on days when I have a few hours to push through some simming.

The bigger news that is taking the country by storm is the new CBA and unionization of the players, since is put in motion a true free agency system for veteran players. A number of BIG NAME stars of the day will become eligible for free agency at the conclusion of the 1954 season unless they can work out a contract extension with their current clubs. Fans are not happy with the prospect of losing home time icons and heroes, but second division clubs and their fans are very excited about the possibility of landing one of these stars next winter and changing the landscape of professional baseball.

Opening Day - News & Notes

Major League Baseball owners are expected to name the members of their new relocation sub-committee next week. That group will be responsible for working through current and potential future franchise relocation requests. They are expected to provide a full report back to league offices by July 1st.

Special committees for MLB expansion plans and ballpark renovation or construction plans will be created by May 1st. They will provide full reports to league office by August 1st.

Commissioner Ford Frick is hopeful that by the end of this season, he will have a much more complete picture of all of those "off the field" aspects of Major League Baseball moving into the next off-season.

More detailed information about all of those subjects will be released during the upcoming winter meetings when the full ownership group of the league will be voting on various aspects of the leagues future operations.

Major League Baseball Commissioner Ford Frick announced the creation of his new relocation committee today. He has selected Dan Topping (NYY), Tom Yawkey (BOS), Grace Comisky (CWS), Gussie Busch (STL), Powel Crosley (CIN), Phillip Wrigley (CHC) to serve as long as necessary.

They have been given broad authority to fully investigate any plans currently under consideration for relocation. The league owners agreed unanimously last winter to freeze the current franchise locations at least until the special committee completes their report later this year.

It is unclear if any potential relocation plans will be shared with the public at some point in the future, but rumors are persisting that the Dodgers, Giants, Athletics and Senators are all looking for better financial options in the near future.

The league schedule remains balanced, but for the first time ever the leagues have been broken into and Eastern and Western division. The restructuring of Minor League Baseball (MiLB) took a toll on some of the massive farm systems that had been accumulated by some of the major league clubs. While teams were able to keep their AAA level players heading into the new year (and some teams actually had two different AAA treams), all other players in a teams farm system became free agents. There were a few big names (known stars after their real careers played out), but remember the game only sees ratings / stats of a 19 or 20 year old with no big league history yet. The league year began with a 150 round free agent draft to disperse and allocate and fill the entire "new" system of MiLB. Each team now has just four levels of minors, AAA, AA, A, Rookie. Roster limits are described earlier in this narrative. I will try to post updates weekly (related to the sim), so hopefully I will be able to post quite a few updates on days when I have a few hours to push through some simming.

That group will be responsible for working through current and potential future franchise relocation requests. They are expected to provide a full report back to league offices by July 1st. Special committees for MLB expansion plans and ballpark renovation or construction plans will be created by May 1st. They will provide full reports to league office by August 1st. Commissioner Ford Frick is hopeful that by the end of this season, he will have a much more complete picture of all of those "off the field" aspects of Major League Baseball moving into the next off-season. More detailed information about all of those subjects will be released during the upcoming winter meetings when the full ownership group of the league will be voting on various aspects of the leagues future operations.

He has selected Dan Topping (NYY), Tom Yawkey (BOS), Grace Comisky (CWS), Gussie Busch (STL), Powel Crosley (CIN), Phillip Wrigley (CHC) to serve as long as necessary. They have been given broad authority to fully investigate any plans currently under consideration for relocation. The league owners agreed unanimously last winter to freeze the current franchise locations at least until the special committee completes their report later this year. It is unclear if any potential relocation plans will be shared with the public at some point in the future, but rumors are persisting that the Dodgers, Giants, Athletics and Senators are all looking for better financial options in the near future.
