No worries, no rush. I understand what projects like this take. I'll keep a log of faces I see that need some work and post them here in batches--if they get addressed over the next few updates, that's amazing.

I decided to do a little more. Attached are versions of Pete Browning, Jack Easton, Fred Fussell, Herman Long, Buck O'Brien, and Gene Tenace that, for various reasons, I think are improvements. Most of them are due to excessive paleness in the current version; Tenace was in this weird shadow.
They may or may not clear the bar for the project--if not, would love some feedback so I can continue to get better at them. I'll continue to do this as I hit ones that look wonky to me. |

Here's the Tenace. Clearly, I should do this in batches of 5. :>

Next 5. Some of these existed. For all of them, if you think the current one is better, of course, just discard mine.

One bit of advice I'd give is to make sure you're exploring all of the sliders and options in the facegen modeler. There are a lot of tools you have available to you, and getting used to them can really help you improve a facegen's quality. Using the Rube Foster (NeL) facegen you posted as a base, I did a little editing and wound up here: What I did for changes was: 1. Reduce texture detail slightly (reduces pixelation) 2. Under "Generate" I dragged the age slider to make him younger and the Caricature slider a little more towards typical (to improve skin tone) 3. Under color, darkened his eyebrows slightly and moved the red/green slider a bit more towards red and 4. Under shape, set the asymmetry to zero (making his face shape symmetric - which is something I prefer personally but isn't always a big deal), and set the nose nostril tilt a bit more to downwards. None of those changes were particularly big, but adding them together winds up in (in my opinion anyway) an overall improvement. |

Those are great pointers. I am pretty sure I'll go back through all the ones done so far once I feel more competent with the tool.
When you say "reduce texture detail," where is that in the tool? There is a 3x8 grid of prebuilt textures that are really hard to figure out, and I haven't seen that option elsewhere. Related, how do you handle facial hair? Often in the picture, it comes through weird, leaving me doing things like removing it, and then adding it via the game itself, which works, but is a little wonky. Next batch is almost ready, I plan to review more carefully using the Foster as a model for the desired endpoint. |

To note, I use version 3.5 of the FG Modeller, so I'm not sure where it might be in other versions. Quote:
For some old-time players, I wound up having to generate a face without facial hair, screencap the resulting model, photoshop facial hair on, and then use that as the new source for a facegen. Off the top of my head, I know that Old Hoss Radbourn was done that way. The only general issue with adding the facial hair in-game is that (as I understand it anyway) it only applies to that specific league file. You *might* be able to add facial hair in the modeller itself with the paid version, but I haven't seen confirmation of it, and I don't really have $300 to spare on a license for it. |

Yeah, the $300 is pretty steep. I'd have already bought it at 1/10th the price. But I can see how folks designing/creating video games could find it worthwhile. |

Just realized it probably makes more sense to do these in zip batches instead of lots and lots of sets of 5. So here are the next 30. Needed to split into groups of 15 due to space limits.
Ginger Beaumont, Beals Becker, Charlie Bennett, Ted Bowsfield, Lew Brown, Charlie Comiskey, Tommy Corcoran, Jim Devlin (*), Patsy Dougherty, Steve Evans, Ray Fontenot, Fred Fussel (**), Hank Gastright, George Gore, Charlie Hemphill, Olaf Henriksen, Ken Howell, Hughie Jennings, Jackie Jensen, Hal Kelleher, Frank Knauss, Willie Mitchell, Carlos Moran, Buck O'Brien (**), Eustaquio Pedroso, Dick Redding, Jack Rowe, Mike Scioscia, Jack Taylor, and Bobby Wallace. * = Need to add the mustache in - game. ** - An improvement on an earlier version in this thread. The A file is Beaumont through Hemphill; the B file is Henriksen through Wallace. |

23 more.
Cool Papa Bell, Robinson Cano (*), Bartolo Colon (*), Stan Coveleski, Fred Dunlap (**), Mike Epstein (**), Steve Evans (***), Cy Falkenberg, Buck Freeman, Adrian Gonzalez (*), Frank Grant (***), Hank Greenberg, Hardie Henderson, Pete Hill, Jim Kern, Hal King (****), Dick Lundy, Andrew McCutchen (*), Tricky Nichols (**), Ron Reed, Red Rolfe, Jack Scott, Piggy Ward. * - I needed a younger version--these all had the weird round smile thing going on that plagues contemporary players. YMMV. ** - Needs beard added in game. *** - Redo of previously provided file. **** - The Hal King in the pack is great, but was misnamed. This is that same file, properly named (if you want to do by hand, just rename from king--001hal to king--001har). |
