The 14th segment of round 1 is in the books.

So match 87 was basically the 2004 ALCS then...

Sure took a couple of the same signatures from the 2004 ALCS, the 14 inning game 5 and the game 7 blowout.

I was actually thinking series 1176 was also like that series. White Sox (home field advantage like the Yankees) up 3-0 before the Royals took the last 4.

Here's group #15.

Top of the bracket:

Another top 100 team falls.

In this series the road team won the first 6 games. Frankie Hayes hit 3 HR and drove in 12 for Philadelphia. Giants 3B Hank Thompson had only 6 hits in the series, but 5 of those left the yard.

95) 1956 Yankees over 2432) 1936 Athletics 4-1 = Hank Bauer .450 (9-20) 1-2
2431) 1924 Braves over 96) 1965 Twins 4-3 = Dave Bancroft .429 (12-28) 2-8
Home team won the first 6 before a Braves 12-2 rout in game 7.

97) 1970 Reds over 2430) 1922 Braves 4-0 = Tony Perez .467 (7-15) 5 rbi
98) 1974 Dodgers over 2429) 1908 Superbas = Joe Ferguson .438 (7-16) 3-4
Bill Russell had 11 RBI against his Dodger predecessors.

Bottom of the bracket:

Another 50/50 split between high and low seeds. 2 more series to the 7th game.

1360) 1957 Phillies over 1167) 2012 Brewers 4-0 = Harry Anderson .467 (7-15) 2-4
1359) 1944 Red Sox over 1168) 2014 Blue Jays 4-1 = Bobby Doerr .438 (7-16) 7 rbi
Marcus Stroman was roughed up in both of his starts, only lasting 3.2 innings combined and allowing 10 runs (a nasty 24.55 ERA!)

1169) 2015 Twins over 1358) 1941 White Sox 4-1 = Joe Mauer .444 (8-18) 2-3
1170) 2015 Nationals over 1357) 1912 White Sox 4-1 = Clint Robinson .278 (5-18) 2-8
1171) 2017 Cardinals over 1356) 1980 Indians 4-3 = Paul DeJong .357 (10-28) 5-12
All games won by home team. First 6 games all decisions went to relievers. Len Barker had 2 abbreviated starts (66 minute rain delay in the 5th inning of game 1, pulled after 5 innings and 102 pitches in game 5) but had 17 strikeouts over the 9 innings he did pitch.

1355) 2018 Phillies over 1172) 1919 Pirates 4-3 = Wilson Ramos .455 (15-33) 5 rbi
Another series played even closer than a 4-3 matchup indicates, as games 1 and 4 went 12 innings (each team got 1) and game 6 was a walkoff winner for Pittsburgh. Roman Quinn drove in 9 for the Phillies.

Just jumped back in after a break to start Group 17. First matchup, the 1919 White Sox and 1905 Browns.

Wouldn't you know it: the Black Sox went up in smoke. Browns got a 3-1 lead, while the Sox got it to game 7. Interestingly, Eddie Cicotte lost game 1. Of the banned hitters Chick Gandil had a great series, hitting .455 with 8 rbi. Happy Felsch hit .281. As for Joe Jackson (.259, only 1 rbi), Buck Weaver (.235, 4 rbi), and Swede Risberg (.194, 6 rbi)? Have to wonder...

For historical accuracy you should make an exception and set this one to best of 9, see if they tank Game 8...

Heh, yeah that would have been neat to add.

Anyway, one other alteration in this storyline - Lefty Williams was clean - won both of his starts. It was Dickie Kerr that was absolutely awful.

Group 17 is in the books.

Top of the bracket:

Already mentioned the Black Sox upset, and this group was completed with another 7 game dispatch of a 101 win team.

2422) 1905 Browns over 105) 1919 White Sox 4-3 = Emil Frisk .433 (13-30) 6 rbi

Seattle won the first 2. In game 6, Steve Carlton fired a 4 hit shutout, striking out 15.

2416) 1972 Rangers over 111) 1971 Athletics 4-3 = Ted Ford ..367 (11-30) 1-7
Game 7 went 13 innings before Texas took the 5-3 decision. Vida Blue’s 2 shutouts (18 Ks) and Reggie Jackson’s 3 homers were not enough for Oakland.

Bottom of the bracket:

2 lower seeds advance. only one 7 game series down here.

1154) 2000 Blue Jays over 1373) 1968 Pirates 4-2 = Raul Mondesi .375 (9-24) 4-6

An eventful group 18 is in the books.

Top of the bracket:

After long stretches without an upset, 4 teams have gone down in the last 2 groups. It very nearly was 5.

2415) 1954 Orioles over 112) 2002 Braves 4-1 = Eddie Waitkus .650 (13-20) 2 rbi
Both Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine were off their game in their starts, and though Kevin Millwood pitched well in both of his, he was outdueled by Bob Turley in the 1-0 finale of game 5.

113) 1908 Cubs over 2414) 1953 Browns 4-1 = Orval Overall 2-0 0.50 18 IP 10 K
114) 1914 Athletics over 2413) 1940 Athletics 4-1 = Rube Oldring .476 (10-21) 4 rbi
2412) 1937 Athletics over 115) 1941 Cardinals 4-2 = Bob Johnson .444 (8-18) 1-9
116) 1947 Yankees over 2411) 1936 Phillies 4-1 = George McQuinn .579 (11-19) 1-7
117) 1949 Yankees over 2410) 1909 Cardinals 4-3 = Bobby W Brown .423 (11-26) 1-4
St. Louis had a 3-0 lead as the Yankees couldn’t hit in the early part of the series, but New York woke with a 12 run outburst in game 4, eked out 2-1 wins in both games 5 and 6, and then KOed Slim Sallee with 5 runs in the first inning of game 7.

Bottom of the bracket:

4 of 7 lower seeds move up. Only one 7 gamer this set - but it had some firepower.

1380) 1909 White Sox over 1147) 1990 Rangers 4-1 = Dave Altizer .476 (10-21) 3 rbi
Ed Walsh defeated Nolan Ryan both times, Walsh even struck out more batters 20-17.

1379) 2016 Marlins over 1148) 1991 Brewers 4-1 = Giancarlo Stanton .300 (6-20) 2-6
1149) 1991 Mariners over 1378) 2000 Marlins 4-2 = Jay Buhner .364 (8-22) 3-3
Randy Johnson struck out 25 in 17 innings of work.

1377) 1986 Cardinals over 1150) 1992 Cardinals 4-2 = Ozzie Smith .522 (12-23) 3 rbi
Ozzie also hit .321 for the 1992 team.

1376) 1974 Expos over 1151) 1996 Rockies 4-3 = Bob Bailey .467 (14-30) 5-14
I thought the next listed series, which was played first, was an offensive series but this one surpassed for pitching futility. Colorado won game 1 13-7. Montreal took game 2 20-6, including 9 runs in the 9th. The Rockies struck back in game 3 12-5. After games 4 and 5 were comparatively calm (8-5 Montreal, and 7-6 Colorado), the Expos finished off the Rockies pitching with a 9-3 victory in game 6 and then knocked out Armando Reynoso with 6 runs in a third of an inning. In the 6th inning with the game at 9-3, Roger Bailey faced 5 batters and all scored, capped by a grand slam from Ron Fairly, From there the Rockies turned the mound over to their bench and allowed 12 more runs and a 26-3 final. Montreal’s big bats for the series, in addition to Bailey: Barry Foote (.519-3-12), Fairly (.478-4-12), and Mike Jorgensen (.462-2-12). Colorado was paced by Dante Bichette (.531, 17 of 32) and Andres Galarraga (.462-4-13)

1152) 1997 Rockies over 1372) 1998 White Sox 4-2 = Larry Walker .522 (12-23) 4-6
Offense galore in this battle of bad pitching. Dante Bichette and Frank Thomas joined Walker with 4 HR. Collectively the Blake Street Bombers hit 15 altogether.

1153) 1998 Dodgers over 1374) 1974 White Sox 4-2 = Gary Sheffield .304 (7-23) 3-4

Returning for group 19. This group was heavy on Giants teams.

Top of the bracket:

One more upset.

118) 1960 Yankees over 2409) 2019 Marlins 4-2 = Bill Skowron .391 (9-23) 2-10
Best pitching duel seen in the tourney thus far in game 4: Ryne Stanek held the Yankees to only a Skowron 2nd inning single and worked 8 ⅓ scoreless (he did issue 7 walks), and Austin Brice completed the shutout. Bill Stafford scattered 3 hits and only allowed Miami to scratch out a run in the 8th.

119) 1937 Giants over 2408) 2010 Pirates 4-0 = Mel Ott .500 (6-12) 3-4
120) 1988 Mets over 2407) 1991 Indians 4-1 = Gary Carter .471 (8-17) 0-6
Cleveland’s lone win, game 2, saw Albert Belle hit a solo HR (one of 3 he hit in the series) off of Dwight Gooden for the only run of the game. Charles Nagy only allowed a 4th inning single to Lenny Dykstra.

121) 1995 Braves over 2406) 1973 Rangers 4-0 = Chipper Jones .667 (8-12) 1-7
122) 1962 Giants over 2405) 1903 Phillies 4-1 = Billy O’Dell 2-0 0.00 17 IP 11 K
123) 1908 Giants over 2404) 1943 Giants 4-0 = Christy Mathewson 2-0 0.50 18 IP 8 K no walks
2403) 1938 Browns over 124) 1951 Giants 4-3 = Billy Sullivan Jr. .379 (11-29) 4-11
Road team wins all 7 games.

Bottom of the bracket:

Higher seeds 4-2 here, with just 1 series to the max.
1141) 1985 Padres over 1386) 1946 Senators 4-1 = Steve Garvey .364 (8-22) 1 rbi
Could have given the nod to LaMarr Hoyt, who left game 1 tied after 8 (Tony Gwynn homered in the bottom of the 9th to make a walkoff winner out of Rich Gossage) and pitched a shutout in game 5. Game 2 went 14 innings, with both teams scoring in the 13th and then the Padres getting an RBI double from Garry Templeton in the 14th.

1385) 1923 Robins over 1142) 1986 Giants 4-3 = Jack Fournier .400 (10-25) 3-5
Dazzy Vance struck out 27 Giants over 16 innings, winning both of his starts.

1143) 1987 Royals over 1384) 1922 Robins 4-0 = Danny Jackson 1-0 3.00 9 IP 3 K and .600 (3-5) 1-6
Game 3 in Brooklyn: Robins lead 2-0 into the 5th. Burleigh Grimes pitching. 2 outs, George Brett and Frank White advance to 3rd and 2nd, respectively, on a wild pitch, which prompts Brooklyn to intentionally walk Angel Salazar to bring up Danny Jackson. 0-2 count - Apparently Grimes didn’t load up this spitball enough, because Jackson launched a grand slam out of Ebbets Field (417 ft to left). Willie Wilson promptly took the next offering deep to right center, chasing Grimes and allowing the bullpen to enter the game and give up 9 more runs the rest of the way to the 14-3 final. KC pitching was outstanding in the series, as Bret Saberhagen only allowed 2 runs in game 1, Charlie Leibrandt and Gene Garber combined to allow 1 unearned in game 2, and Mark Gubicza thru a 5 hit shutout in game 4.

1144) 1988 Giants over 1383) 1905 Naps 4-1 = Will Clark .524.(11-21) 2-5
Kevin Mitchell led the Giants with 4 HR and 7 RBI.

1145) 1989 Red Sox over 1382) 1916 Indians 4-2 = Ellis Burks .364 (8-22) 1-2
Tris Speaker hit .440 with 6 RBI for Cleveland.

1381) 1909 Reds over 1146) 1989 Rangers 4-2 = Dick J Egan .423 (11-26) 2-7
Rangers pitching was WILD in this series. Nolan Ryan and Kevin Brown combined for 20 walks (against 15 strikeouts) over 23 innings. The rest of the staff issued 19 more free passes.

Just completed group 20.

Top of the bracket:

This group also leaves with one upset, and some other entertainment.

125) 1976 Phillies over 2402) 1985 Pirates 4-3 = Greg Luzinski .346 (9-26) 3-4
Good pitching both sides of this series, none of the 7 games had more than a 2 run margin of victory. Mike Schmidt, who had a horrible series (.160), made up for it by hitting a game winning solo homer in the 10th of game 7 to break a 5-5 tie and send the stubborn Pirates to the losers bracket.

126) 1977 Phillies over 2401) 1909 Superbas 4-0 = Richie Hebner .500 (8-16) 2-5
127) 1985 Cardinals over 2400) 1904 Beaneaters 4-1 = Andy Van Slyke .500 (11-22) 9 RBI
Boston only had 5 pitchers available, and in game 3 the starter, reliever, and game 4”s projected starter got drilled for 17 runs. In game 4 the massacre continued and position players came in after the 4th to finish absorbing a 28-3 beatdown. Tom Herr also hit .500 and Darrell Porter led St. Louis with 11 RBI. John Tudor stuck out 20 in his 2 outings.

128) 1997 Braves over 2399) 1957 Senators 4-2 = Javy Lopez .429 (9-21) 2-8
129) 2003 Braves over 2398) 1942 Athletics 4-0 = Javy Lopez .467 (7-15) 2-3
2397) 1917 Athletics over 130) 2004 Yankees 4-2 = Wally Schang .455 (10-22) 3-8
Big series from Philadelphia’s Amos Strunk (.458) and Ping Bodie (.370 4-10) as New York pitching was awful. Hideki Matsui hit .500 for the team in pinstripes.

Bottom of the bracket:

4 lower seeds advance here, 4 series went 7 games.

1134) 1976 Red Sox over 1393) 1963 Indians 4-2 = Carlton Fisk .381 (8-21) 2-8
1392) 1964 Dodgers over 1135) 1977 Cardinals 4-0 = Dick Tracewski .471 (8-17) 3 rbi
Closer series than the final result appears, all 4 games were decided by 1 run, the last 3 going extra innings.

1136) 1979 Rangers over 1391) 1919 Robins 4-3 = Buddy Bell .387 (12-31) 1-9
Zack Wheat hit 4 home runs for Brooklyn in the series.

1390) 1934 Pirates over 1137) 1980 Athletics 4-3 = Arky Vaughan .440 (11-25) 1-6
Paul Waner drove in 11.

1389) 1926 Giants over 1138) 1980 Pirates 4-1 = Travis Jackson .316 (6-19) 3-6
1139) 1982 Tigers over 1388) 1927 Reds 4-3 = Lou Whitaker .308 (8-26) 2-5
Jack Morris finished off a tight series with a 4 hit shutout in game 7.

1387) 1951 Braves over 1140) 1985 Astros 4-3 = Earl Torgeson .321 (9-28) 2-2
Nolan Ryan outdueled Warren Spahn in both games 1 and 5, but the Astros couldn’t get 2 more wins. 5 games were 1 run affairs, with game 2 going 11, and the decisive run scoring in the top of the 9th in game 7 off of Astros closer Dave Smith.

I was able to knock out group 21 this afternoon/evening as well.

Top of the bracket:

One of the quieter top halves thus far.

131) 2017 Astros over 2396) 1902 Orioles 4-0 = Alex Bregman .600 (12-20) 3-8
No sign stealing necessary for Houston in this series, as this Baltimore team was ripped apart by defections to the New York Giants during this season. As a result, the pitching here is awful and shorthanded. The Astros ended up scoring 70 runs over the 4 games. The stars in addition to Bregman: Yuli Gurriel .647-1-10, Carlos Correa .550-2-5, Marwin Gonzalez .529-1-8, including 7 RBI in game 2, George Springer .364-3-12.

The Gashouse Gang unexpectedly had their backs up against the wall by a strike shortened unit from Chicago, A 3-3 series saw Bill Buckner homer early in game 7, but that was all for the Cubs, and Collins hit a 2 run shot in the 6th to give the series to the Redbirds with a 2-1 victory. Terry Moore drove in 10 during the series.

135) 1955 Yankees over 2392) 1975 Tigers 4-0 = Ron LeFlore .650 (13-20) 1-3
A rare series MVP from the losing squad, LeFlore was on base the entire series, but hitters behind him could do nothing. Whitey Ford won his game, but this time as much for what he did at the plate, hitting 2 homers and driving in 5. Mickey Mantle also hit 2 longballs in the series.

136) 1939 Reds over 2391) 1931 White Sox 4-0 = Wally Berger .533 (8-15) 1-4
137) 1948 Indians over 2390) 1939 Athletics 4-0 = Larry Doby .471 (8-17) 1-4

Bottom of the bracket:

The seeds held in this group. Just one 7 gamer here.

1128) 1910 Red Sox over 1399) 1971 Reds 4-0 = Tris Speaker ..412 (7-17) 1-5
1129) 1914 Senators over 1398) 1971 White Sox 4-3 = George McBride .407 (11-27) 7 rbi
1130) 1966 Cardinals over 1397) 1970 Astros 4-2 = Orlando Cepeda .346 (9-26) 6 rbi
1131) 1970 Mets over 1396) 1970 Tigers 4-1 = Cleon Jones .500 (11-22) 6 rbi
In this battle of the 2 previous World Champions, the defending Amazin’s claimed the battle. Donn Clendenon hit 3 homers over the first 2 games, and a guy named Seaver threw 2 complete games, allowing 1 run in each while striking out a total of 20.

1132) 1971 Cubs over 1395) 1968 Twins 4-1 = Fergie Jenkins 1-0 0.54 16.2 IP 13 K
Phil Regan “vultured” the win blowing the save for Jenkins in game 1, as Billy Williams beat a throw home off of pinch hitter Brock Davis’ grounder to 2nd., then won game 2 in the 11th as Ron Santo hit a walkoff homer. Jenkins finished the series with a game 5 shutout.

1133) 1971 Mets over 1394) 1963 Tigers 4-1 = Ed Kranepool .450 (9-20) 2-9
Tom Seaver pitched a shutout in game one and got the decision in game 5, also hitting a solo hr to help himself. He struck out 15 over 16 ⅔.

Did you create the listing of teams or find it online? I'm interested in doing a similar project.
