I studied Mike LaValliere vs Smoky Burgess in PT20 for something like 10-15 full seasons (or more) and concluded that there was a small, but noticeable impact on K/BB of the pitching staff favoring the better catcher. I also concluded that there was a small, but noticeable effect on ZR, errors, and passed balls favoring the better catcher. Emphasis on small.

The largest impact I saw was in the amount of SB attempts. While there wasn't a huge difference in CS%, opposing teams were attempting to steal on Burgess about 2-3 times more often than Lava.

There isn't enough data yet in PT21 to conclude anything. Why don't we all agree to keep an eye out for this type of thing.

This is an intriguing idea; makes me wonder if it's worth pursuing designated batteries, pairing stuff-heavy pitchers with worse defensive catchers since there are more swings & misses, and vice versa with control pitchers & better defensive catchers.

No, we need to see the effects of the fix... Kelly can and will play somewhere, he's one of the best hitting cards in the game.

Yeah, the point is not to make guys like Kelly or Piazza unusable, but make it a tougher decision to sacrifice the defense.

I have Kelly and never have used him as a catcher. I understand why he is used that way but it never "felt" right to me...to use him and have someone like Bench...well, on the bench.

Agree. This has bothered me too. Every 10 minutes i want to sell him bu this bat and WAR are so great.

Please keep in mind: A switch from Kelly to Bench has more impact on a pitcher like Nolan Ryan than on a pitcher like Maddux

Also, if you are running the beta version, you will see no difference. This particular update will require an update to the server which will be done when the patch is released officially

I know it's a small sample size, but early returns on the updated Catcher defence look good.
