I don't have an answer for your questions but want to add that I also don't understand what happens when I let AI choose the tactics. Most of the tactics have no players as a great or good fit and many as bad or terrible fits. And, global and unit setting drop sliders for tempo, passing, and shooting to lowest level. And, even with that, I get 30-40 shots a game (giving up about the same) and I win about 2 out of every three games for a while. But, if I set the tactics and roles myself where I at least have some if not all players be good and great fits and move the three sliders I mentioned to at least even I get outshot almost every game and lose a lot more than I win. I even tried looking at flow (i.e. where I think about where the tactic places a player in a position in one zone and try to are sure what I ask in the other two zones isn't the exact opposite location) my results seems slightly better but I never felt like I broke through to where I understood how what I did would lead to consistent success. I have done well some season but it seems so random.
I too would love some tips on gaining and sustaining a season long positive trend line (after all the ups and downs) for my teams performance.
