Today's first matchup in the NABA, and our featured game of the week is the Umm Durman River Rats vs the Rabat Invaders.

For the Rats, Muslim Bin Wasim took the mound. The outspoken Moroccan was a 3rd round pick of the Rats, who throws a balanced pitch mix of offspeed offerings. His cutter touches 95, but is sparingly used.

For the hometown Invaders, Sekla Salam took the mound as an opening day starter. Salam is a junkballer who throws 6 pitches and maxes out at 92 mph.

At 9:35am Eastern Time (1:35 local) we get underway in the NABA! The first at-bat is a groundout by Badder Saber to the first baseman Abdu-Azim Kharyi, who lobs it to the pitcher Salam for the first out. The River Rats go 3 up 3 down in the first on 3 groundouts. In the bottom of the 1st, Muslim bin Wasim racks up the first strikeout in league history with a leadoff 3 pitch K. He gets a 2nd K before facing Umarah Abdul-Wahid, the #1 overall pick. Wahid instantly lives up to the hype, taking a 91 mph cutter 415 feet into the right fields stands. EV off the bat was an impressive 106.9.

Uquessan Dingane led of the 2nd with a double, the first hit for Umm Durman. But the pitcher worked out of the jam, retiring the next 3. In the top of the 3rd, Badda Saber got the Rats on the board with an RBI triple into the deep right field of Rabat. Abdul-Wahid then misjudged a flyball in center and allows a double, making it 2-1 UmmDurman. Samir Kadeer laced a single to widen the lead. The speedy runner then advanced to second on the throw home. One more run would end up scoring off a fielder's choice, and the score became 4-1.

Rabat got one back in the 3rd with a homer by the #9 hitter, the glove-first catcher Ultac Gulalami. Two more scored on a double by Abdul-Wahid, tying the game at 4-4. The teams traded runs in the 4th, to go to 5-5. In the bottom of the 5th, Umm Durman sent in the bullpen, and it went terribly, allowing 2 runs and 4 hits.

The Rats chased the starter 5.2 IP in with a Kadeer Sahir RBI double, 7-6. But the Invaders kept the runs coming in the bottom of the 6th, capped off with another Abdul-Wahid homer! Exit velo was only 94 mph on this one. 2B Nadir Ahmad made an incredible diving stop to get out of the inning, but the score had already reached 12-6 by that point.

In the next inning, the offense kept coming, as Abdullah Rabah hit an inside the park 2-run homer to bring the score to 12-8. Umm Durman would add one more in the 8th, but their comeback attempt fell short, as they lost 12-9 on Opening Day.
