Catcher D

I thought I read or heard that catcher defence was going to be improved this year. I was told today that it doesn't work.

Early performance of 4 catchers (121 to 50 DEF RATING) leads me to believe that Catcher DEF still doesn't matter.

Was there supposed to be improvements? What were they?

Depending on the answer I may have a Bench for sale!

Apparently greatly improved in the normal game, not much changed on PT... i have solid data that shows virtually no "real" impact between the best defensive catcher in the game (SE Bench) vs a 50 rated catcher (King Kelly)

no effect on CS% too?

In my case the lower catcher has the superior CS%..... mind boggling! Bench does show much better number in range and a few less errors.

Hi, are you willing to share it with us? I remember that in OOTP20 I had Bench and Smoky Burgess and that after 20+ seasons Bench's CERA was significantly lower than Burgess's...

Here's from this season Gold:

Before you jump to conclusions, consider their offensive production:

and if we put a DH with no defence for a catcher? someone have tried it? I'm just intriged by the result.

Edit: Oh well you can't put a non catcher for catcher.

I can't, the game block it lol.. the player must have a minimum in catching ability, I guest.

I'd like to know what the real deal is, as I currently trot out defense heavy catchers in my tournament lineups.

What happened to Smoky? How does a PT3.0 Smoky PEEK have worse ratings than a Smoky PT 2.0 All Star card?

Yeah, I find this disappointing as it is one of the few Defence first positions left in the game.

Defensive shortstops, second basemen and center fielders have a much greater defensive effectiveness than a catcher in Perfect team. Even 3b, LF and RF have a bigger defensive impact. :2cents:

You can't put anyone at Catcher, as they actually had to have played the position in real life,, but you are better off putting a hitting Catcher in the game rather than a defensive one. IMO

Can someone from actual development confirm what's being said in this thread? Is there any impact on the pitching staff?

The one example shown above it way too small a sample to make any conclusions. But if this is true, I wasted a lot of PP for no good reason.

This is what I logically concluded without really knowing, so it's good to get confirmation.

Catchers impacting the K & BB rates

Wee can see a significant difference in strikeouts in both seasons.
