1931 MID-ATLANTIC LEAGUE

Teams:

Beckley (WV) Black Knights
Charleroi (PA) Governors
Charleston (WV) Senators
Clarksburg (WV) Generals
Cumberland (MD) Colts
Fairmont (WV) Black Diamonds
Hagerstown (MD) Hubs
Huntington (WV) Boosters
Jeanette (PA) Jays
Johnstown (PA) Johnnies
Scottdale (PA) Cardinals
Wheeling (WV) Stogies

Jeanette was replaced mid-season by Altoona (PA) and then Beaver Falls (PA). Hagerstown was replaced mid-season by Parkersburg (WV) and then Youngstown (OH).

Schedule Characteristics:

SCHEDULE type="ILN_BGY_G133_T12_C_" inter_league="0" balanced_games="1" games_per_team="133" start_month="5" start_day="7" start_day_of_week="5"

Each team plays 133 games. Teams play each other between 8 and 17 times.

Season starts on May 7 and ends on September 13. Weekday games start at 7:00. Weekend games start at 1:00. Double-header games begin at noon and 3:00 (weekends/holidays) and 4:00 and 7:00 (weekdays), except for split home-and-home double-headers, which begin at 10:00 and 3:00 or at 1:00 and 7:00. No Sunday games at Charleroi, Fairmont, Jeanette, or Wheeling.

Another example of a league experimenting with a twelve-team format, and, like all such experiments in the railroad era, it was a failure. The Mid-Atlantic League downsized to six teams in 1932.
