17 team schedule request
Yes, I know it's an odd number of teams, but still.
17 teams in 3 divisions. 6 in the first two and 5 in the third. 6-team divisions 11 games against each division rival (55 total) 7 or 8 games against each opponent from the other 6-team division (44 total) 9 games against each opponent from the 5-team division (45 total) 144 total games 5-team division 9 games against every opponent (balanced, 36 against division, 108 against non-division) 144 total games No all-star break. Season starts first Saturday on or after April 2. Season thus ends mid-September. Mostly two-game series. One three-game series against each opponent if necessary. Try to balance home and away games as much as possible. Each team should have at least 1 off day per week. The team that does not play due to the odd number of teams gets at most 5 days off. If you can't find something that works feel free to tell me what's wrong. |

On first glance, again I think doing all 2-game series is the only way to really make this feasible. How about...
6-team divisions 10/10/12/12/12 games against 5 opponents 8 games against other 11 opponents 5-team divisions 12 games against 4 opponents 8 games against other 12 opponents There would be three sets of 2-game series per week. Thus every team has at least the one offday per week, plus one team is off during each set of series. |

I should add that having a team off during each set of series means it takes longer to play out all the series. So in this case the schedule needs to span through the end of September.
Also one set of series will have only 8 teams playing instead of 16 teams. |

The one offday per week isn't neccesary, though I want it. I also want a balanced schedule and possibly some 3-game series as well, though your proposal works fine.

I'll go completely balanced as that fits my original idea better.

# 17 team schedule, 144 games # Designed for the following configurations: # any configuration of 17 teams (balanced schedule) # # # 9 games against 16 other teams in division (4-5H/4-5A) # # # Schedule is mostly 2-game series with one 3-game series per opponent # # Series fall scattered about all days of week # There is no weekly pattern as day of week is essentially meaningless # # Because of odd number of teams, at least one team is off every day # # # No cases of more than 18 straight days without offday for any team # # No homestands or roadtrips longer than 14 games # # All game times set at 7:05pm # # Season begins first Saturday on or after April 2nd # Season thus ends late September # # No All-Star Game set # |

Hi. Markus-
How did you accomplish this? I'm trying to expand a single division 6-team league to 7 teams, but the game keeps crashing when the first-year player draft occurs. I've manually adjusted the schedules to that they are OK. Did you have a 17-team sub-league? How do you set it up? Thanks! |

Personally I know quite a few people use odd-number-of-teams leagues/subleague and that there is a system to setting them up that seems to work. But I do not recall exactly how to go through the steps. I think it is normally just set up the league/subleague with an even number, then add/subtract a team, and finally import a schedule for the odd number of teams. The General Discussions forum may get more bites with better answers.

I've tried it all, I think. Add 1 team, import a custom schedule (one of yours, actually). Crash. Add 1 team, modify the OOTP-generated schedule so it's OK. Crash. Add 2 teams, no issues. Add 2 teams, delete 1, leave the schedule alone. Crash. Add 2 teams, delete 1, manually delete the schedule with the deleted team's games. Crash. |
